Police fun day raises cash for Beckton hospice

PUBLISHED: 07:00 20 October 2012

A police fun day raised £1,500 for Richard House Children’s Hospice.

The event, organised for the friends and families of Newham police force, included games and exhibitions of police cars, vans, riot shields and sniffer dogs.

It was hosted at the Met Police Sports and Social Club, in Chigwell, Essex. All money raised will go towards the Beckton hospice, the nominated charity of Newham Police.

Viv Talbot, Richard House community fundraising manager, attended on the day.

She said: “Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make the police fun day such an enjoyable event.

“We are grateful to the police for choosing us as their nominated charity and we will be looking forward to using the money to support the 300 families who rely on our services.

“East London’s local community groups provide essential fundraising for Richard House and I would urge anyone who is interested in helping further to get in touch with me as soon as possible.”

Richard House is London’s oldest children’s hospice. It opened in 2000 and initially supported just a handful of families; this figure now exceeds 300.
