Jason Potter, who attends Havering College, collected a silver medal at the Podium Awards ceremony at Fish Island, which overlooks the stadium.

The 19-year-old HNA media production student co-produced two films focused on apprenticeships.

The first was made to encourage the uptake of apprenticeships in landscaping and horticultural and the other to attract more women into the construction industry.

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA)-commissioned films are being shown in schools and colleges to promote apprenticeships.

Robert Noseda, former Employment and Skills manager at the ODA and Kath Moore, who led the Women in Construction Project at the Olympic Park, attended and paid tribute to the students’ work.

Mr Noseda said: “I was incredibly impressed by the professionalism of the Havering College Media students.

“One group got to work with BBC Blue Peter gardener Chris Collins. Both films were an amazing experience for everyone involved. I am delighted the talents of the students have been recognised by this award.”

The evening was hosted by TV presenter Rick Edwards, and attended by more than 350 guests, including the Locog chief Paul Deighton.

The project was overseen by Havering College HND Media Production lecturer Stephen Pick and curriculum manager for Media and Film Studies, Toby Marshall.
