The artistic talents of NewVIc students have helped to revitalise a sexual health centre’s waiting area.
The Greenway Centre, which is located at Newham University Hospital, now boasts 11 original designs in its waiting area.
Students in the second year of their art and design course at Newham Sixth Form College explored the relationship of Islamic traditions and contemporary work as part of a wider debate influenced by Newham’s diverse community.
They visited the centre to learn how staff meet health needs while respecting the range of cultures and religious beliefs in the area.
Dr Jake Bayley, consultant physician in sexual health and HIV at Newham University Hospital, said: “Patients had commented on our rather gloomy waiting room, so we approached NewVIc to make it more welcoming and were delighted when they agreed.
“We have honestly been blown away by the high standard and range of designs and are very grateful.
“I hope the art will make them more comfortable and lift their spirits whilst they spend a short while in our waiting area.”
