In the aftermath of the typhoon which struck on November 8, Jankoma Crisp, geography teacher at East London Science School, Three Mill Lane, decided to teach her pupils about the causes and effects of a typhoon.

What followed was a fundraising week of cake sales, non-uniform day and sponsored activities and the students surpassed their initial target of £200.

As a result of their efforts, a representative from the Disasters Emergency Committee is coming to the school to collect the money in person.

The typhoon, which killed more than 6,000 people, devastating hundreds of towns and cities and left thousands of people without food, clean water and shelter.
