More than 1,000 schools, including Selwyn Primary School in Cecil Road, West Ham, will be participating in the national event for the charity SignHealth.

At GMT 2.45pm on Febuary 6 young people around the country and overseas will sign a song, entitled ‘sign2sing’.

Chief Executive at SignHealth Steve Powell explained: “The children’s book character, Olli the monkey, who loves to sign, features in our online digital resources for the event and in an interactive lesson called ‘Monkey Manor’.

“Although Monkey Manor is fun and entertainment-led, schoolchildren will be steered to access important communication messages, tips and information as part of the experience.”

Children are asked to wear a scarf like Olli’s and bring in a £1 donation.

The videos and photos will be sent to Guinness World Records.

Last year 114,277 children took part and smashed the world record. The previous record, also set by SignHealth, was 94,489.

Schools can register via www.sign2sing.org.uk for the event.
