Newham is one of the least friendly places to live in London, a survey has revealed.
One third of the borough’s residents reckon their neighbours would not look out for them if they were in trouble.
The study, by credit firm Experian Consumer Services, put Newham in the bottom 10 London boroughs.
Neighbouring Waltham Forest and Barking and Dagenham also rated poorly, with scores of 70 and 71 per cent respectively.
Tower Hamlets was the most unfriendly, with 62 per cent of respondents showing no faith in their neighbours.
An Experian spokesman said: “The London boroughs generally performed pretty badly compared to the rest of the UK in this regard.
“Obviously people’s perceptions are influenced by things like higher crime rates and greater proportions of the population not speaking English as a first language, which tend to increase in big cities.”
In contrast, eight in 10 people in Havering said their neighbours were friendly. Similar numbers were recorded in Bexley and Kensington and Chelsea.
