The provisional A-level pass rate in Newham for grades A* to E has gone up from 95.4 per cent in 2011 to 97.1 per cent, up 1.7 points.

This increase is bigger than the national increase for the same grades which was 0.2 per centage points to 98 per cent. The pass rate for London was 97.8 per cent. All figures are provisional until the Governemnt publish final results in January.

Sir Robin said: “The increased pass rate at grades A* to E reflects the investment being put into education in Newham to ensure that students achieve their best.

“The hard work of colleges and schools is paying off and our young people continue to achieve better results than students in far more privileged and wealthy areas. The aim must be to build on this in the coming academic year.”
