Newham health heroes awards launched

An awards campaign to recognise the efforts of health care staff who go beyond the call of duty has been launched.

The ‘Barts Health Heroes’ awards campaign, by Barts Health NHS Trust, will publicly recognise and celebrate the staff and volunteers who go above and beyond their daily duties to make places like Newham University Hospital a fantastic place to work.

Peter Morris, Chief Executive, said: “This new campaign, which we hope everyone from our hospitals and the wider local community will support, is an exciting opportunity to reward and recognise our outstanding staff and volunteers who work hard every single day to achieve the best possible experience for our patients.”

The campaign is looking for individuals and teams who embody the Trust’s five key values. These values were chosen based on the responses from over 1,200 staff, patients and partners and include listening to every patient, learning from their feedback, as well as making sure the Trust provides the safest possible clinical environment for every person they treat.

These values are demonstrated by physiotherapist Jill Brydon from Newham University Hospital who is described by as a ‘hero’ by her patients for her ability to really listen, to motivate and for making them laugh even during the most difficult of times

Another Newham University Hospital hero is Charlie Sage from the maintenance tea. He is described by colleagues as a ‘hero’ because he cares so passionately about making the hospital environment and gardens as welcoming and attractive as they can be.

Nominations for this year’s awards can be submitted online at the new Barts Health website or by filling in a nomination form which are available in every reception and waiting room across the Trust. Nominations must be received by November 9 2012.
