Campaigners from Newham Stand Up To Racism joined thousands of people in a march from Portland Place to Parliament Square on Saturday.

In total 20 marchers, including Abdul Karim Sheikh from Green Street Mosque and Iain Hale from Newham Teacher’s Association, attended the United Nations anti-racism day march held on the anniversary of the Sharpeville Massacre when South African police opened fire on black protesters.

Newham SUTR’s Rob Ferguson said: “It was a brilliant demonstration. This was the biggest UN demo yet because people are very angry and worried about the fall out from Trump’s election and Brexit.”

The group will be holding an open meeting on April 4 at the Stratford Advice Arcade in The Grove, Stratford, to discuss how to build the anti-racism movement in Newham.
