A finanical request from the NHS “Operating Framework” document suggests that it will cost local healthcare services £21,908,217 to implement, costing tax payers over £3.4 billion before it is passed through Parliament into law.

Ms Brown said: “These dreadful new figures clearly demonstrate that the Tory-led Government’s reorganisation will cost the NHS far more than was previously thought.

“It is frankly outrageous that thousands of nurses will lose their jobs in order to fund this irresponsible and unnecessary plan.”

Since the last general election, Newham has also reported a 44 per cent increase in the number of patients having to wait more than 18 weeks for treatment.

The new plans will also mean that Primary Care Trusts, such as NHS East London and the City, will have to cut £2.44 billion over two years.

Ms Brown added: “This wasteful spending is completely indefensible, diverting investment away from maintaining standards of care.

“During the election Cameron promised no more top-down NHS organisations, yet as soon as he came to power, he demanded the largest and most dangerous top-down reorganisation in the history of the NHS.

”The people of Newham did not vote for this massive NHS upheaval, whilst our doctors, nurses and patients have already communicated profound apprehension over the plans.”

The Labour Party are currently urging the Government to drop its controversial Health Bill and an online petition against it has been set up by Dr Khalish Chand at epetitions.direct.gov.uk.
