More trains are being laid on during the bank holiday weekend in east London and Essex to cope with an influx of passengers on the Fenchurch Street-Southend line.

An extra 100,000 seats are being shunted into service by c2c to cope with passenger demand over the three-day sunshine weekend.

Rail bosses have also promised no engineering work to hold things up.

“There’s been a lot of weekend engineering recently,” admitted c2c managing director Julian Drury. “But we’re now back for business and pulling out all the stops to provide more seats.”

Trains are being doubled to eight carriages. This adds another 35,000 seats on Saturday, 20,000 on Sunday and 35,000 on Bank Holiday Monday itself. Passengers also get an extra 10,000 seats on 15 additional late-night trains over the three days.
