Manor Park dentist struck off for dishonesty

PUBLISHED: 10:45 19 November 2012

A dentist who made fraudulent claims against the NHS has been struck off the dental register by his professional body for dishonesty.

Femi Fajemisin, who was working as the principal dentist at the Kindblue Dentalcare Practice at 745 Romford Road, was removed from the register by the General Dental Council (GDC) following a public hearing into allegations of dishonesty last week.

The allegations heard by the Council’s Professional Conduct Committee were in connection with claims he made to the National Health Service between 2005 and 2008.

The Committee found, among other things, that Mr Fajemisin had dishonestly submitted claims to the NHS for payment for dental treatment in the name of his wife, also a dentist, for treatment that he had provided himself.

The committee also found that the dentist had claimed for courses of treatment when it had not been provided.

The Committee said: “Mr Fajemisin’s dishonest behaviour was deliberate, sustained and contravened fundamental principles of the dental profession.

“It is plain to the Committee that, in view of Mr Fajemisin’s past behaviour and in the absence of any evidence regarding his insight, his fitness to practise is currently impaired. Mr Fajemisin made a large number of fraudulent claims using different mechanisms during two different NHS charging regimes. He knowingly and deliberately defrauded a public body with limited resources. In the Committee’s view his behaviour is wholly incompatible with remaining on the dentists register.”

His registration was suspended and his name will be removed from the register within 28 days from the date of the commitee’s decision unless he appeals.
