Rower Katherine Grainger finally realised her Olympic dream, winning gold in the double sculls with partner Anna Watkins. She had previously won silver in three consecutive Olympic Games.

Victoria Pendleton took gold in the women’s keirin in the Velodrome, making up for the disappointment of being disqualified the previous day from the team sprint.

Pendleton’s was not the only success in the Velodrome. The men’s team pursuit squad - Ed Clancy, Geraint Thomas, Peter Kennaugh and Steven Burke - won gold in their event, breaking the world record at the same time.

There was disappointment for Rebecca Adlington in the pool, but she still took home a bronze medal in the 800m freestyle.

Team GB rowers George Nash and William Satch took bronze in the men’s pair and Alan Campbell took bronze in the men’s single sculls.

Veteran British judo heavyweight Karina Bryant won bronze following a fight with Iryna Kindzerska of Ukraine.

Andy Murray won his semi-final against Novak Djokovic, and will play Roger Federer in the men’s singles finals on Sunday.

But Team GB’s women’s football team was out of the Olympics after losing to Canada.

Day seven left Team GB fourth in the medals table with 22 - eight gold, six silver and eight bronze. At the same point in the 2008 Beijing Games Britain had won just eight medals.
