And the Olympic Torch finally arrives in Newham.
Moments ago the first of 26 runners for the borough’s leg of the iconic flame’s tour of the nation is ex-Olympian boxer Ron Cooper, 84,
He represented Team GB in 1948 White City Games. Ron, aided by a walking stick, was cheered off hugely by waiting crowds.
The Torch had arrived from Greenwich via the North Woolwich Ferry.
Police burst through the doors of 13 suspected gang members today in a series of dawn raids to crack down on street violence.
