The event, organised by the Thames Dragons club, united community groups and passers by for a day of activities both in the water and on dry land.

Organisations invited included Newham City Farm, Henna ink tattooists, and massage therapists.

Events on the water featured the 100m sprint - over in 30 seconds rather than the nine blitzed by Usain Bolt during the Olympics.

The club, which operates from the London Regatta Centre on Dockside Road, has members from across the world who compete in international tournaments.

Organiser Paul Coster said: “The reaction was very positive. We had some people walk by, and the community groups really found it useful because they had access to local people.

“For us it’s about promoting the sport and making it accessible to people.”
