Hundreds of thousands of records for a historic cemetery in Newham are now available online.

Some 420,000 records for Manor Park Cemetery and Crematorium, in Sebert Road, Forest Gate, have been digitized and can be viewed on www.deceasedonline.com from the beginning of next month.

The website features over three million London burial and cremation records and millions more for the rest of the UK.

The records for Manor Park comprise approximately 380,000 burials and 40,000 cremations. These include digital scans of registers, computerised records for post-1996 burials and cremations, interment details indicating all those buried in each grave, burial maps, and memorial photographs.

The 43-acre cemetery which opened in 1875 has around a hundred graves offering an insight into late 19th and 20th century East London.

Among them are John Travers Cornwell VC, believed to be the 3rd youngest recipient of the Victoria Cros, after losing his life aged 16 in the Battle of Jutland in 1916.

Annie Chapman, the second victim of Jack the Ripper was buried

there in 1888. There is also a royal connection with a large memorial to Mary Orchard (1830-1906), a much loved nanny to the children of Princess Alice.
