Passengers from Newham can travel even further west with Crossrail extension

The rail line will now serve two additional stations, Twyford and Reading, when it opens in 2019.

It means that passengers from Newham can reach the town with no need to change, providing greater connections with the rest of the country.

From Reading, travellers can connect to many long distance trains which do not stop in London.

It will be an extension of the western branch of the line, which was initially planned to terminate at Maidenhead.

Newham is served on both the north and south branches of the eastern side of the line, with stops at Stratford, Maryland, Forest Gate and Manor Park when Crossrail takes over the existing Greater Anglia line to Shenfield.

It will also have a new station at Custom House on the southern section, which terminates at Abbey Wood.

Newham commuters will also be among the first in the country to use the new Crossrail trains when they are rolled out on the Liverpool Street to Shenfield section in May 2017.
