West Ham boy and former chairman of the BBC Sir Michael Lyons will talk about his childhood in Newham and public investment tomorrow.

Appearing at Stratford Picturehouse in Salway Road, Sir Michael will be giving a lecture entitled ‘Luck and opportunity: How can we do more for all of our young people?’ before taking questions from the audience.

Sir Michael will also be telling host Hugh Muir, from the Guardian and formerly from the Recorder, about his early childhood growing up in the borough and how he believes his path to success benefitted from public investment along with a discussion on the lessons to be learned from London 2012.

The talk is one of a series run as part of Newham Council’s Ideas Olympiad which has also featured guests including Metropolitan Police Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe and scientist Professor Robert Winston.

Taking place from 7pm to 8pm, tickets are free but availability is limited.
