Forest Gate students sell their designs at Spitalfields Market

Creative young students in Forest Gate set up shop in Spitalfields Market to sell clothing they designed themselves.

Eight Year 10 students from St Bonaventure’s School in Boleyn Road, Forest Gate, sold t-shirts they had designed and produced at the busy market to learn about marketing and selling.

They packed up their wares and hit the road to flog their wares with teachers Stephen Nelson and Bernadette Campbell on hand to give advice.

The group branded themselves Genesis before they cut their business chops at the trendy market selling nine of their designs.

The boys of St Bon’s managed to sell four t-shirts but they learned how to improve their sales pitch, target customers, and best expand their business.

Mr Nelson said: “Spitalfields is quite a unique market with a distinctive clientele and I feel the boys learned a lot. “They were determined and in good spirits and we had a lot of positive feedback which really encouraged them.

“We will bring back all that we learned and discuss and develop the way forward for Genesis and how best we can market our product.”

The eight students who braved the chilly market weather were: Ajay Amalor, Michael Lukose, Oliver Hugaas, Hawkin Cheung, Ferdinand Flinton, Eddy Tony, Grebin Cherian and Acshayan Savundrarajan.

The project was part of the Young Enterprise programme that sets young people challenges and practical business experience.
