A Forest Gate pub has called for the safe return of one of its regulars after his surprise disappearance almost a month ago.

Roy Youles, 66, vanished after he was last seen in the Hudson Bay on Upton Lane on May 12.

He became a fixture in the watering hole after dropping in every single day since the start of last year.

However, he did not let slip anything about his personal life to fellow drinkers, said manager Monica Tymosz.

She added: “He was very quiet and always minded his own business and didn’t speak to anybody, even if they sat at his table.

“He would come in at about breakfast time and ask for a pint of Ruddles, or if it was Monday, a Guinness because we sell it for £2 then.

“Sometimes he would stay all day or sometimes he would stay until at lunchtime and then go and come back later in the afternoon.”

Roy is described as white, with thinning grey hair.

On the day he disappeared he was wearing black trousers and a black top with blue ‘Adidas’ stripes on the arms.

Miss Tymosz said was much missed by staff and other regulars despite his shyness.

She said: “When you have people like him who come in every day he becomes part of the furniture. You know he is always going to be there at table 20.

“He didn’t spend much money, so its not as if we are missing him because of that.

Last year, when we handed out Christmas cards to our customers he kept his up on the table to show his appreciation.

“If he walked back in tomorrow, we would all be very very happy.”

Anyone who may have seen Roy should contact the Newham Missing Persons Unit on 0207 275 5728 or the non-emergency number 101.
