The council brought 57 cases, all of which were heard on the same day at Thames Magistrates Court on November 22.

The result was the council received £20,000 in fines and costs.

They included:

· Two flytipping cases - fined a total of £590 and £392 respectively

· Two public urination cases - fined £425 each

· Thirty nine cases of littering - fined £370 each

Residents who dumped a seven-foot high heap of boxes and bric-a-brac in a Canning Town street (pictured) were fined £400, £150 costs and £40 victims’ charge.

Councillor Unmesh Desai, Newham Council’s Executive Member for Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour, said: “Waste dumped in gardens, flytipping, littering, public urination - these aren’t trivial offences and they aren’t acceptable - as this record number of fines makes crystal clear.

“We’re saying to the people who do this: we won’t stand for it. We will keep fining people until they stop. We are targeting them rigorously and vigorously and doing this for the whole community.”
