To commemorate 30 years since the ground-breaking Michael Jackson video Thriller The New Black Film Collective presented a weekend of film, culture and entertainment.

This was created through Hollywood horror and by re-enacting Michael Jackson’s iconic dance in Theatre Square, Stratford, outside the Stratford East Picture House.

Children from Newham dance schools East London Performers and Kerry Jane Academy took part in the flash mob along with various people around the community,

Following the Thriller dance was a “binge fest” of the Action horror, Blade, where all three movies were screened back to back.

Pupils from Ellen Wilkinson Primary School in Beckton were among performers of a smooth criminal tap piece and a tribute to Michael song repertoire.

Nu Social Health Organisation (NUSHO) supported the event by launching the Thriller Weekender programme with pre-film entertainment.

Kelley Webb-Martin, the Chair of Trustees at NUSHO said: “The event was a success and we’d like to do something similar as an inter-generational project in the future.”

She added: “We had a number of members from an elderly group spontaneously break out in dance during the flash mob”.
