A man was rescued after a fire broke out in East Ham on yesterday evening.

Two men escaped before firefighters arrived at the house in Nelson Street but the third had to rescued from the partially damaged first floor by crew wearing breathing apparatus.

All three occupants were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service.

Four fire engines from East Ham, Barking and Hainault fire stations and an aerial appliance from Dagenham fire station attended the scene.

The brigade was called at 5.11pm and firefighters brought the blaze under control by 6.03pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
