Services through Newham have reopened after a man in his 70s was hit by a train at Ilford

The metro service, which affects Stratford, Maryland, Manor Park and Forest Gate stations, has reopened after being suspended until 10am.

London Underground and local bus services are accepting tickets on any reasonable route, as are train operators c2c and First Capital Connect.

Trains are now running in both directions and are calling at Ilford but passengers should expect delays.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to Ilford station on Wednesday, 19 March after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

“Officers from BTP and the Metropolitan Police Service attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 9.23am

“Medics from the London Ambulance Service also attended but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.”

“The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.

A spokesman for London Ambulance Service said they were called at 9.20am to a person under a train at Ilford station.

They sent a single responder in a car, an ambulance crew and duty officers but the man, from Ilford was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Recorder had originally been told by the London Ambulance Service that the person killed was a woman, but British Transport Police have since said this was not the case.
