Pupils at St Bonaventure’s are celebrating a record year of GCSE results.

The Boleyn Road school saw 90 per cent of its pupils achieve five GCSEs at A*-C grade, with 20pc of them getting at least one A or A* grade - an increase of 3pc on last year.

One of those to do just that was Oliver Hugaas from Beckton.

The 16-year-old picked up eight A*s and four As, and said: “I wasn’t expecting to do this well.

“I’m really happy because I want to study medicine, and my mum, who works in a hospital, said some universities won’t even consider you unless you get five or six A*s at GCSE.”

The school also saw identical twins Kevin and Novin Premadeva pick up 21 GCSEs between them, including identical A*s in German.

“It was good that we could help each other revise,” said Novin, who lives in Manor Park.

Headteacher Paul Halliwell said: “We are very pleased with our individual GCSE successes this year.

“The students worked really hard and we are proud of their achievements.”
