Five girls at St Angela’s Ursuline are celebrating receiving 38A*s and 17As between them.

Iani Gayo, Cecilia Donkor, Sophie Martin, Mathuvi Remigius and Minty Acquah-Mankoe were among 70 per cent of girls at the St George’s Road school to get five or more GCSEs at A*-C including English and maths.

Headteacher Mark Johnson said: “I am particularly proud of the students and staff who worked so hard this year, especially when achievement in GCSE is getting harder nationally, and am so pleased that so many students are now moving on to St Angela’s sixth form to study A-levels before university.”

The all-girls school boasted impressive pass rates among those who took a language GCSE, with 90pc earning a C or above.

There was also an 85pc A*-C rate in English, with 80% of those that studied maths and religions studies also making the grade.
