Stratford School Academy set up the unusual item so that children collecting their GCSE results could celebrate their success.

Andrew Seager, headteacher at the Grosvenor Road academy, said: “We have had another set of very solid exam results this year: 65 per cent of our pupils achieved 5 or more GCSEs at grade A*-C including English and mathematics, our pupils’ average GCSE grade was again a C and our Progress 8 score – which measures the progress our pupils make whilst with us - is going to be better than it was last year – and last year’s was good.”

Louise Coulibaly, pictured above, was the school’s highest-achieving girl with four A*s , five As, and one B. She shared the secret of her success “I gave a weeks’ worth of revision for each subject, thanks to all of the teachers and the school. I am so proud of my results.”

Meanwhile the highest-achieving boy, Vraj Patel was awarded a stellar eight A*s and three As.

Fellow pupil Zakiya Maljee praised the way the academy supported all students, saying: “The school has improved so much, we have a lot of intervention classes and teachers give us so much time, these intervention classes have helped to improve our grades.”

However, Mr Seager was keen to make sure that everyone got credit for the school’s progress.

“As ever, getting good results is a team effort: we have a really strong teaching staff, our pupils did all we asked of them and all our efforts were backed up by strong parental support,” he said.
