Canning Town conference will debate role of enterprise

PUBLISHED: 15:35 11 March 2014 | UPDATED: 15:35 11 March 2014

Students and heads of education will be joining politicians and entrepreneurs for a conference to debate the role of enterprise in education.

The event, which is called This Generation, is being organised the charity Community Links. Students, heads of education, politicians and entrepreneurs will ask if there is a place for enterprise in the classroom, should enterprise be a part of the curriculum and how could enterprise benefit the UK economy.

Its aim is to develop a series of five key recommendations for politicians and local decision makers.

A spokeswoman for Community Links said: “This Generation is part of Community Links’ Links to Enterprise project. The idea for the conference arose out of the Barrow Boys and Girls Academy events at Hoxton and Well Street markets when young people were given the opportunity to transform their business ideas into a real-life trading experience. Out of that, came the question: “How could enterprise best be delivered to young people in education?”.

Instead of hosting a conference for adults to deliver reports and debate the findings, Community Links decided to give young people a chance to examine the issues for themselves.”

On March 27, 60 students will come together to try and find solutions. At 2.30pm, they will present their findings to an audience of local politicians, heads of education and entrepreneurs and agree the final five recommendations to be put forward to politicians and local decision-makers later this year.

The conference will take place on March 27 at Community Links at 105 Barking Road, Canning Town.
