A new study building at St Angela’s Ursuline School was officially opened by Bishop Alan Williams.

The space has been designed to replicate a university study area, giving 250 students access to computers for research and work purposes and providing a place for independent learning.

Named Desenzano, after the small town where the founder of the Ursulines grew up, the building was officially opened on Friday last week with a ceremonial ribbon cutting and a blessing by the Bishop and was attended by students from Years 7-13 as well as teachers, governors and Ursuline sisters.

Bishop Alan spent time speaking to sixth formers at the St George’s Road, Forest Gate school about his experiences as a student and the role of young people in the church before meeting school liturgy representatives in the chapel.

He blessed badges that had been created in honour of the Brentwood Diocesan Centenary this year and was presented with one of his own.

His visit was completed with a tour of the school and was a memorable event for all involved.
