The top-achieving Brampton Manor Academy student is now heading off to UCL to study natural sciences.

He was among more than 50 per cent of pupils in his year who received a place at a Russell Group university after completing their A-levels at the new sixth form.

A 100 per cent pass rate was recorded with 95 per cent of pupils achieving A* to C grades and more than 70 pc achieving A* to B.

Shingi Mararike, who achieved two A*s and an A, is one of five students taking up a place at Warwick University, where he will study English Literature.

He said, “I’m so relieved. I could not believe it until this morning. I worked as hard as I could, I learned from my mistakes and I trusted in my teachers who believed in me and gave me great advice.”

Shona Bhome-Dhaliwal was equally bowled over after receiving the A*, two As and a B that she needed to study medicine at the Cardiff University’s School of Medicine.

“It hasn’t really sunk in yet,” she said. “I’ve wanted to be a doctor since I was about twelve years old and now I’m going to study Medicine at a Russell Group University”.

Executive principal Dr Dayo Olukoshi said: “This is a great day for our students. They are highly talented and hardworking young people who thoroughly deserve their success today.

“We promised them when they chose to study A Levels here that we would not let them down and we have kept that promise. As our first Sixth Formers their results are very special to us.”
