England and Germany might be old rivals on the football pitch, but staff at a Newham housing association stood side by side in their shirts - and those of many other nations - to raise money for charity.

Workers at East Thames, which provides homes including the East Village in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, embraced the World Cup fever by wearing a range of international football shirts on Friday.

They raised £250 for the East Living football team which supports residents with mental illnesses.

World Cup fever doesn’t stop there as they will also be hosting the Community World Cup, a seven-a-side football tournament at Wanstead Flats on Thursday, July 3 from 11am to 4pm.

Each team will be allocated a World Cup country, so if you’ve ever wanted to represent England - or one of the 31 other nations - you’ve got the chance to.

Every player will receive a medal and the winners will receive a replica World Cup trophy and West Ham tickets.
