Naimish Gohil, 32, who grew up in Lonsdasle Avenue, East Ham, launched Show My Homework in 2011 and has been shortlisted in the start-up category at this year’s Great British Entrepreneur Awards.

Currently used by a fifth of English secondary schools, the programme is designed to help save teachers’ time and make life easier for students

A former assistant headteacher, Naimish traded in his job security to start learning to code so he could catapult homework into the 21st century and put it ahead of the curve in the fast evolving EdTech industry.

“My mother spoke broken English and she didn’t have a clue about my homework when I was at school,” said Mr Gohil, who moved to the UK from India aged three. “I always told her I didn’t have any.

“Not only can Show My Homework help keep parents in the loop, it also helps the children because it can’t be lost in translation through scribbles in a homework diary.”

The former Brampton Primary, Brampton Manor and NewVic College student currently employs more than 60 people at his office in Cam Road, Stratford, alongside other offices in Nigeria and Los Angeles.

The awards ceremony will take place at the Ballroom Southbank, in central London on November 25.
