DWP staff support Beckton hospice

Staff at the Department of Work and Pensions in Stratford have pledged to support a children’s hospice.

The workers, at the DWP Benefits Centre, will support Richard House Children’s Hospice by taking part in four months of fundraising fun.

They decided to raise money for the hospice after hearing about the vital work it does for children with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses and complex healthcare needs.

The team will be raising money until Christmas. They will be gathering funds through dress down days, cake sales and other events.

The most recent fundraiser involved staff coming to work in celebrity fancy dress, and there was a competition for the best-dressed star.

The winners were Debbie Eccott, dressed as Lady Gaga, and Andrew Price who was Indiana Jones for the day.

Viv Talbot, community fundraising manager, said: “We are delighted the Department of Work and Pensions have decided to adopt us for the next few months. A total of £250 was raised from the first dress down day, which is sufficient to pay for five children to have a half hour session in our sensory room, something which is vital to their peace and wellbeing.”
