Changes on way on social housing

Following a 12 week consultation, a decision will be made tomorrow, Thursday, by Newham Council on changes to the way social housing is allocated in the borough.

If approved by the Mayor and Cabinet, the changes will see people in employment prioritised on the waiting list for social housing.

People who have made a contribution to their community in other ways such as serving in the armed forces will also be given preference.

The policy has been reviewed so it is line with the Mayor of Newham’s resilience agenda and to ensure it supports residents who are making an effort by taking positive steps to improve their lives and contribute to society.
