The sky was the limit for daredevil staff from London City Airport recently when they completed a charity parachute jump.

A group of 15 people from the airport raised more than £5,300 for Richard House Children’s Hospice in Beckton by jumping out of an aeroplane at 12,000 feet.

The tandem jumps took place at Headcorn Aerodrome in Kent and were the latest in a programme of fundraising activities organised by London City Airport, which has supported the Beckton-based hospice for more than 15 years.

Annabelle Thorpe, Airside Safety Coordinator at London City Airport who took part in the parachute jump, said: “What a fantastic opportunity to raise money doing something as fun as a sky dive. I had a great experience.”

Ben Alonso, Community and Events Fundraiser at Richard House, said: “I am delighted to see one of our long-term supporters, London City Airport, taking a leap of faith for our children’s hospice. They have all worked very hard and raised over £5,000 and without the support of companies like London City Airport, it would be very difficult to raise the £1.7 million from voluntary income that the hospice needs to stay open each year.”
