Cycling stars set for World Championships at Lee Valley Velopark

The biggest names in world cycling will roll into Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in two weeks’ time for what is expected to be the biggest UCI Track Cycling World Championships of the modern era.

With squad announcements imminent, organisers have revealed that more than 48,000 tickets have been sold for the five-day extravaganza, which begins at the Lee Valley VeloPark on Wednesday, March 2.

Returning to the UK for the first time in eight years, the tournament will see the likes of Olympic champions Jason Kenny and Laura Trott return to the scene of their 2012 heroics for a coveted rainbow jerseys.

The first ever British Tour de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins will also return to the arena where he broke the world hour record last summer, as he bids to earn a place on the British Olympic team pursuit squad in Rio.

Spectators can expect five days of exciting racing with UCI World Champions being crowned in seven of the 12 sessions.

“This year’s UCI Track Cycling World Championships will be spectacular,” said Trott. “It would be amazing to compete in my home city and with the backing of so many fans.
