Inspectors who visited Scott Wilkie Primary School in March rated the school as “good” in all four of their marking criteria - achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management.

Headteacher Kerri Edge said: “It’s a fantastic achievement to go from “special measures” to “good”.

“It’s wonderful for the community to know that they now send their children to a “good” school which is the entitlement of every child.”

The inspector who visited the Hoskins Close school told staff that she had only ever taken one school from “special measures” to good in the past decade.

Ms Edge believes that teamwork contributed to the school’s extraordinary success.

“It has really been a remarkable achievement in such a relatively short space of time and has shown the effect of teamwork in the true sense of the word,” she said. “I couldn’t have done it without the staff, pupils and parents getting right behind me.

“The support from the Local Authority in improving the physical environment of the school was also a contributing factor.”

Further mprovements suggested in the Ofsted report include ensuring teachers provide more difficult work for more able students, ensuring teaching assistants receive appropriate training and making sure pupils use feedback to improve their work.

Scott Wilkie was placed in special measures in October 2012 following concerns that teaching quality varied too much and leadership and management was inadequate.
