Detectives investigating the New Year’s Eve murder of a 20-year-old in West Ham have urged any witnesses to come forward.

Officers were called to Memorial Avenue, close to West Ham station, just after 7.30pm to reports of a man having been stabbed.

Efforts were made by both officers and paramedics to resuscitate the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene at 8.22pm.

A murder investigation was launched by the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command under Det Chief Insp Will Reynolds.

He said: “This attack has robbed a young man of his future and robbed a family of their loved one.

“The victim was with a number of people at the time of the attack, and I urgently need to trace this group of young men.

“Memorial Avenue is a busy residential area close to West Ham station. I know that there were people in the area who witnessed the incident, and I also need them to come forward.”

He is one of four young men to be killed in separate New Year stabbings across London.

Officers believe they know the victim’s identity, however they await formal identification, with police urgently trying to trace his next of kin. A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

Nobody has been arrested, and enquiries continue.

Anyone who witnessed the stabbing or has information that may assist police is asked to call the incident room on 020 8721 4005 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
