An emotional tribute march has taken place in memory of tragic teenager Champion Ganda, one year after he was stabbed to death in broad daylight.

A year on from Champion Ganda's murder his family and friends including his mother Peguy Ganda, brothers and grandmother marched past where he was killed in Sandringham Road in Forest Gate and then on to his grave in Manor Park Cemetory. Champion Ganda’s friends and family marched past where he was killed in Sandringham Road in Forest Gate and then on to his grave in Manor Park Cemetery.

Tears were shed as they gathered outside Forest Gate station last Friday before walking the same route the 17-year-old aspiring rapper took before he was killed.

Champion, of Harold Hill, had been visiting friends before the fatal attack on May 9 last year. His killers have not yet been caught.

Speaking to the Recorder about dealing with her son’s death a year on, Peguy Kato said: “There are no words. Life is not the same, it is just not the same.

“Today is the day Champion died. We are walking to the place he was killed and we are going to walk on the same route Champion walked.”

Champion, who studied performing arts at Stratford College, was the oldest of seven children.

He performed under the stage name Chrome, and his videos on YouTube notched up 6,000 views.

As they reached the scene of his killing, the mourners paused to reflect on Champion’s life, before Peguy delivered a touching speech, in which she called for justice, saying “enough is enough”.

“We are asking for people to speak. It happened at 2pm. I believe there are lots of witnesses. People somewhere know what happened, but the more we stay quiet, the more crime is happening in London.

“It is hard for police to do their job when people stay quiet and no one is talking. Today it is my son, but other people are dying. Crime is still there.”

Ten people have been
arrested in connection with Champion’s death, but no one charged.

If you have information, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111, or the police’s incident room on 020 8345 3775.
