An 18-year-old has been sentenced to two years in a Young Offenders Institute after he tried to sell an undercover police officer crack cocaine.

Two plain clothes PCs from the British Transport Police were patrolling Beckton Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station at around 7.20pm on July 13.

Aminur Rahman, of Tunnan Leys, Beckton, was arrested after he nodded at one of the officers, approached him saying, “Do you want the stuff?”, then walked away with his arm outstretched and a small bag in his hand.

He was searched in custody where officers found a small bag of cocaine hydrocholoride with a street value of £10 as well as £220 in cash.

A number of text messages making reference to Rahman’s intent to supply a variety of drugs were also found on his mobile phone.

Rahman pleaded guilty to possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday February 19.

An order was also made for the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs.

Det Con Lawrence Murphy, the investigating officer, said: “I hope his sentence sends a warning to others that carrying or dealing drugs on the transport network is not acceptable.”
