Robbed East Ham father warns others to take care

He was beaten up by robbers in his own home and is urging other residents to be vigilant.

Anwar Ahmed, 36, of Flanders Road, was at home with his family on the night of October 24 when, at about 10.30pm, three men broke in through the front door. They attacked him and stole jewellery, several iPads and an Apple Macbook pro. They also took his car, a BMW325 saloon.

The incident was witnessed by his wife and the youngest of his three children.

Although Mr Ahmed has recovered from his physical injuries he remains shaken by the attack. He has increased security measures at his home but wants ordinary people to avoid buying items that are sold particularly cheaply as they could be stolen, as a way of curbing such robberies.

Mr Ahmed, who works for a software company, said modern gadgets such as mobile phones, iPads and laptops can all be tracked and traced if they are suitably marked. He believes educating people about not buying stolen items may help curb such thefts.

He said: “ My intention is not to scare people, but to raise awareness and for local authority to take more actions in catching the robbers and making our neighbourhoods safer.

“Since the incident I have increased security in my house, I only wish I had this knowledge before the incident.

“I was beaten up quite badly by the robbers. My wife and three children where not hurt, but it has left every one very scared and shaken up. It makes you feel really jumpy about everything.”

Mr Ahmed’s stolen car has since been recovered and Newham police officers are continuing to investigate the incident.
