Detectives are appealing for additional potential victims of a serial sex attacker jailed for six years for offences in the Canning Town area over two years to come forward.

Hassain Ahmed Chowdury, 26, of Croydon Road, Beddington, Sutton was jailed for six years on May 23 following his conviction on nine counts of sexual assault at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

Now, police officers are appealing for any other victims to get in touch.

The string of assaults took place around the Western Gateway area of Canning Town and involved six women from June 2011 and June 2013, Chowdury was arrested and charged on September 27 2013.

The first attack happened on June 22 2011 at about 11.45pm when a 51-year-old woman was sexually assaulted as she returned to her home in Seagull Lane from the direction of Royal Victoria Dock DLR Station. The second occurred on October 14 2011 at 8.30pm when a 22-year-old woman was on her way home in Western Gateway, again from the direction of Royal Victoria Dock DLR Station. Chowdury followed the woman into a lift where he assaulted her, telling her he would kill her if she said anything to anyone. He assaulted her for a second time.

CCTV images released by the police showed the women entering the building and a man following her into the lift.

He also attacked women on November 9 2012 and May 2 2013. On June 12 2013 he sexually assaulted 25-year-old woman as she returned to Balearic Apartments in Western Gateway at 11.30pm.

Officers from Sapphire, part of the Met’s Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command are urging any other women who may have been a victim of Chowdury to call 020 8217 9874 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
