Forest Gate man on police stab charge

A Forest Gate man has been arrested after a police officer was stabbed while guarding the Libyan Consulate in central London.

The officer, a member of the Diplomatic Protection Group, was injured when he responded to an incident inside the Consulate in South Kensington.

He was stabbed on the arm, an injury that was not life-threatening. The suspected knife-man was disarmed and arrested. He was questioned by the Counter Terrorism Command.

The following day Mohamed Ghnour, 39, thought to be a Libyan national, of Romford Road, appeared at Camberwell Magistrates Court accused of assaulting a police offer and possessing an offensive weapon. He stands remanded in custody unil July 12.
