A drugs mule has been sentenced to four years in prison after attempting to smuggle more than £300,000 worth of Cocaine into London City airport.

Tanieka Carpenter, 20, of Tylecroft Road, Norbury, was intercepted by border force officers on April. 8.

After x-raying her hand luggage they found a number of packages of the drug concealed within the dividers of her bag.

Forensic analysis showed almost two kilos of cocaine hidden inside her wheelie suitcase, with an estimated street value of £319,000.

She was arrested and taken to Forest Gate police station where she was interviewed by national crime agency officers and later charged with importing class A drugs.

Carpenter had arrived on a flight from Zurich but her journey began in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Assistant director, Michael Buckley, head of border force operations at London City, said: “Border force officers, like those who made this seizure at London City Airport, are on the front line of the fight to stop illegal drugs like cocaine making it onto the UK’s streets.

“Working with the National Crime Agency we are determined to do all we can to tackle traffickers and the criminal groups behind smuggling.”

Carpenter pleaded guilty at Croydon Magistrates on April, 8, and was sentenced to four years in prison by a judge at Croydon Crown Court on May, 13.
