‘Thoroughly dishonest’ fraudster jailed

A snooker obsessed waiter who stole a customer’s identity to buy £4,000 worth of cues has been jailed for ten months.

Areen Adriano, 26, was working for Robata Restaurants Ltd in Canary Wharf, Docklands, when he stole the customer’s details from his American Express card.

He bought cues and other goods worth £4,227.16 online from the Billiards Boutique and another £959.98 of goods from Argos.

Filipino Adriano also used the customer’s details to apply for an £8,000 personal loan.

The victim’s credit rating was demoted as a result of the fraud and he has been battling to restore it ever since.

Adriano has been committing various frauds ever since he came to Britain and was nine days out of a suspended sentence for trying to buy airline tickets with three stolen credit cards when he was arrested.

He has been sending money home to his wife and daughter in the Philippines and lives with his mother.

Adriano, of Wren Close, Canning Town, admitted fraud by abuse of position and eight counts of fraud by false representation.

Judge Christopher Moss told him: ‘Your victim has suffered greatly as a result of your dishonesty. Not only did your actions cause him great inconvenience, but you caused his personal credit rating to be impugned.”

“He has gone though a great deal of trouble to put it right.”

Adriano said he regretted his actions but Judge Moss said they were “crocodile tears.”

“You are thoroughly dishonest as your record shows,” the judge added.

Adriano waved to relatives in the public gallery as he was led away.
