Officers investigating an assault at West Ham station have released a picture of a man they wish to speak to.

The incident, which saw the victim left with cuts and bruising, took place at 2.50pm on Sunday, July 6.

After boarding the train at Barking, he became involved in an argument with a couple who had a buggy with them over standing room.

Insults were exchanged and the couple left the service at West Ham.

The man then returned to the train as it waited on the platform and punched the victim twice in the face before leaving once more.

Dc Jon Howlett said: “While tempers were clearly running high between the three people, there is no excuse for the violence meted out to the victim.

“British Transport Police works hard to ensure that the rail network is a safe place for passengers and staff, and need to find the man responsible for this assault.”

Anyone who recognises the man, who police believe has information which will help their enquiries, is asked to call British Transport Police on 0800 405040 or text 61016, quoting reference TSUB/B15 of 01/08/2014.

Information can also be given anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
