A three-month dispersal zone, which was enforced in April to crackdown on crime and antisocial behaviour, will now be in place until October 26.

It gives officers the power to separate and exclude those who they believe are causing trouble and harassment. Anyone caught faces a 24-hour ban, arrest, an Asbo, or a possible spell in prison.

The zone includes the area around the magistrates’ court in Broadway and along West Ham Lane.

Newham Police stressed it does not cover the area around the Olympic Park and was put in place with the support of residents and businesses.

Acting Insp Stephen Mulcahy said: “The antisocial behaviour that has been displayed in the area will not be tolerated.

“We will continue to carry out high visibility patrols in the area and target offenders.

“it is our aim that every resident, business or visitor enjoys the right to live and work in peace without being harassed, alarmed or distressed.”

Newham Cllr Unmesh Desai added: “It is good news for residents and businesses that we’ll be continuing this joint work. Residents tell us safety remains a priority and we are investing more in making Newham safer.”
