Investigating officer Detective Constable Jon Howlett said: “There have been a number of thefts from the cash machine in the foyer at Forest Gate rail station between April and June.

“The men are believed to wait around in the foyer of the station and then approach the victims, telling them the machine isn’t working and pressing buttons in a bid to distract them.

“They then take the bank card from the machine and use it to make cash withdrawals elsewhere.”

“The incidents, most of which have taken place between 11am and 3pm, have understandably left the victims feeling shocked and shaken.

“We have made a number of lines of enquiry to find the men responsible, including reviewing CCTV footage, and as such have released an image of two men we believe to have key information.”

“I would urge anyone using cash machines at stations to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to police immediately.

“If you have seen anything suspicious at the station, or think you know who these men are, please get in contact with us.”

Anyone with information is urged to call the British Transport Police free on 0800 40 50 40, quoting incident reference B6/LNA of 28/06/12 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
