Symieon Robinson-Pierre, 25, and a pal ignored police as they battled with the raging animal then said: ‘You should have just knocked on the door. Mate, there’s nothing we can do.’

Pcs Martin Corderoy, Lee Bush, Marc Merrit, Steve Bones and Paul Garrard were left with hand and leg wounds after the 30-minute frenzy.

The 29 kilogram dog was eventually shot dead by a police marksman at the scene in Albert Square, Stratford, but not before inflicting severe hand, arm and leg wounds to its victims.

Robinson-Pierre was found guilty of three charges of owning a dog that was dangerously out of control at Inner London Crown Court today after a week-long trial.

The jury of seven men and five women took less than an hour to reach unanimous verdicts on all three counts.

After the verdicts were returned, Robinson-Pierre admitted to a further charge of being in possession of a fighting dog.

Sentence was adjourned but the musician was remanded in custody and warned by Judge Martin Bishop QC that he faces jail.

At the close of the prosecution case, Judge Bishop directed the jury to find him not guilty of a fourth like charge relating to an attack on Pc Merrit because he was bitten in the front garden and not in a public area.
