Enforcement teams visited East Ham on Wednesday and Thursday to mark the fourth outing of Operation Ohio - sparked by residents’ concerns about anti-social behaviour.

Operation Ohio is a 48-hour crime ‘crackdown’ on a square mile of Newham involving 40 council enforcement officers and council-funded Section 92 police officers.

The first outing of 2013 was brought forward after a number of residents reported problems caused by groups of young people in the East Ham South ward just before Christmas.

The team targeted 12 ‘people of interest’ and executed a number of search warrants on properties but no arrests were made.

Kevin Jenkins, ward councillor, said: “Residents have voiced concerns about what is going on in their area. We’ve listened and acted.

“The message to those who engage in crime and anti-social behaviour is clear: they will not be tolerated.”

Officers will return to the ward in the next few weeks to follow up enforcement notices handed out during the operation.

Operation Ohio teams also issued 171 notices for front garden waste, five Fixed Penalty notices including two for nuisance parking, identified eight fly-tipping incidents for clearing, reported 13 untaxed vehicles to the DVLA, logged five foreign vehicles for UK registration, inspected 21 businesses for waste offences, and carried out seven Blue Badge checks and two waste carrier checks.

To report anti-social behaviour in your area, call the police non-emergency information number 101 or visit www.newham.gov.uk.
